..."Slow down, ya move to fast...yav'e got to make the morning last now...kickin' down the cobblestones, lookin' for fun and feelin' groooovy"...

Hello everyone and welcome back to Beam the Light Be the Change. I thought I would start this post with the beginning song lyrics to the Simon & Garfunkel song "Feeling Groovy." It will also be the musical selection of this post. I have been feeling compelled to write this piece for still yet, I myself, needed to learn that lesson again of sloowwiinng down.

I must say it is a difficult lesson for many of us to learn. Especially, those of us from Western Nations. It is pounded into our head, oh let's say now, about kindergarten! I remember as a girl, those carefree, endless days, but this was wayyyy back in the 60's and the 70's. It seems that in those few short decades so much has changed.

Life became more about making and earning lots of money. The eighties brought all those crazzzy parties. They were not for me. This gal here, just as now, would be in bed on a Friday night, finally waiting for that pillow under my head. ;) I was a hard working girl!

Yet, even for me the pace of insanity, had hit my life. This I have shared with you in my series of "A Healing Journey." I will not recap, but I did want to share with so many of you, to take life a bit slower, and become a part of your life, rather than your life taking over your part. I have learned great wisdom while on this healing journey of mine and I do each and everyday; for this I am truly, truly grateful.

Not only was the wisdom of my body taking me down, but also so many wonderful people I was blessed to have found. My wonderful Dr. Wu, a Chinese Medicine Specialist; he always shared with me, "Maria, you need to relax, take lonnng walks and ever so slowly." I love that beautiful man for he has taught me so very much. A doctor from India I once had, also shared with me, to take a three mile walk everyday. He said that is all you need, not all of this fancy equipment and machinery.

I have discovered that it is all so true, these words of great wisdom. I have always been active all of the sports since I was a child, yes, one could have even called me a, what I like to say, a "Tom Girl!" ;) Oh, I ran, swam, played
tennis, football, soccer, basketball, baseball, softball, and cycling was my favorite! Though now, I am scaled down to walking. It was a devastating, but most needed moment, when I finally gave my last bicycle away. Now walking is so very vital for me for it is also my transportation, it is also my source of exercise, peace, and relaxation.

One can see so many things upon a nice long walk; whether you live in a city or in the country. It is wonderful to keep your body healthy and at the same time, your soul, your spirit, and your entire well-being. Rather than writing all I could write about what can see and learn upon a walk, I will make a pictorial of my healing journey that will soon be Part Two of my series, as well as, the current healing path that I am on in the great state of Iowa. ;)

So I invite all of you tonight, today, to sit back and take a nice deep breath, a sigh of relief, and please enjoy my photos and the songs that I will select. Also, I pray you please, to keep in mind that when you seem to be just "toooo busy," take a moment, and step back; truly the business can wait for a few short long breaths, perhaps a cup of tea, a nice glass of wine, a chat with a stranger or a friend, or as my beautiful Dr. Wu would advise me, "take a nice, slow lonnnnng walk...:)

This weekend I will be focusing on wrapping up the Healing Journey Series. I have shared with you in a couple of post past that there is one I've yet to finish of a different series, and I also have two other pieces that I wish to do. After that, I want to focus upon a series of stories about indigenous peoples. Especially with the Environmental Summit and the G-20 meeting in Rio at this time. Evo Morales, the President of Bolivia stated so eloquently, (in my humble opinion) "It is not possible that the so-called 200-, 300-year-old 'civilization' is able to destroy the harmonious life that the indigenous people have lived for 5,000 years. This shows the enormous difference between the Eastern nations, the South countries, and especially the social movements that live in harmony with Mother Earth." Courtesy of Democracy Now!

I feel that it is so very critical right now, to not only focus on the ending of waging war, but we must also focus on the end of waging war upon our Mother Earth. The indigenous peoples of our own country, of whom we owe everything, those of the Latin Americas, the Caribbeans, of Africa, of Asia, of the Middle East, the Maori of New Zealand, the Aboriginal peoples of Australia. Please forgive me for any I have missed.

I shall dedicate the series I will write to one very special man, Javier Sicilla, of Mexico. I have a post about him titled, "A Man of Change." I had the greatest honor to meet him on my second leg of my healing journey at a lecture he gave at the University of the Pacific. My post explains so much about him and I shall write about him more with the upcoming series.

Alrighty, everyone, this woman has gone on enough for tonight. I shall start posting my photography. Please do enjoy and I do hope this images help you to find a place within yourself to SLOWWWW DOWN...EN PAZ Y AMOR as always, Maria
